Bowls

Bowls are the alpha if not the omega of wheel throwing. While I was in Japan, the massive temple bells fascinated me and I returned to imitate them in a bowl form.

Vases/Boxes

The potter must be ready to run with the clay as it springs up from the wheelhead. And then there is the journey out and back to create the spinning globe.

Platters

The horizontal — extension, grace, elegance, strength, raw power and more — are the many moods of these pieces. Wabi, sabi, shibui.

Cups & Mugs

These modest and beloved objects of daily life have great nurturing power. We warm our hands around them, and raise them to our lips. People have given me their specifications and that is where the best design comes from.

Dinnerware

For me dinnerware is theme and variations, and the spirit is established in the large plate, the ground of the other pieces.

Teapots

Teapots are the most difficult of functional forms. The requirements of spout, lid and handle present many design possibilities. I enjoy teapots which are light enough to feel the volume of the water.

I wish to credit photographers Hugh Barton, Mike Dean and Kent Peterson.
